Opening Reception: Florals by Connie Newton Stancell

The Friends of the Cos Cob Library are delighted to announce that the works of local artist Connie Newton Stancell will be on exhibit at the Library from June 2 to June 30. The Opening Reception will be held in the Cos Cob Library Community Room on June 2nd from 5-7 pm and light refreshments will be served. 

Florals and More will be Stancell's fourth solo exhibition. Her earlier solo shows were at Les Beaux Art Gallery, CT (2011), Esther Rauschenbush Library, Sarah Lawrence College, NY (2010), and Restaurant Jean Louis, CT (2002).

Connie Newton Stancell was born in Vermont and grew up on her parent's dairy farm in rural Massachusetts. She earned her BA at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where her studies included German, physics, and History Art. Coursework in art followed over time, at The Corcoran School of Art, Washington, DC, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA, and in a rigorous program of study with working artist and teacher Chery Baird in Dunwoody, GA.

Stancell has been an artist member of Greenwich Pen Women since 2004 and is a signature member of The National Association of Women Artists since 2010. She served as Historian for the Greenwich Art Society from 1999-2001. She is a Rose member of Equity Gallery, NY, and is also a member of the Greenwich Arts Council, Greenwich Art Society, New Canaan Center for the Arts, and an Exhibiting Member of the Rowayton Arts Center since 2004. She began exhibiting her artworks in 1998.

Her work has been included in more than 60 group exhibitions in the US and has received many awards in these group shows. Selected group exhibition locations include:

The 2020 USA 35 x 35 Art Project of the Copelouzos Gamily Art Museum, Athens, Greece included one of her paintings and the painting is now in the museum’s permanent collection. Stancell’s art was selected for Studio Visit Magazine published by Open Studios Press, Boston, MA in 2012 and again in 2015. Her work is also included in the collection of Trumbower Financial Advisors, Bethesda, MD and in a number of private collections in the US.

Stancell resides in CT with her husband and where she has her studio.
