Register online

Join Jesse Meyers for an 8-week workshop of lectures/open discussions analyzing the 15-short stories in Dubliners from the pen of the 20th Century's most influential writer. The weekly sessions will be held in the lower level Marx Family Black Box Theater and attendees may bring their lunch.

Dubliners is a collection of short stories first published in 1914 by Irish author James Joyce and was Joyce's first major work of fiction.

Each story features a different plot with different characters, but all of the stories depict middle-class people in Dublin in the early 20th century. The final session reviews The Dead, arguably the greatest short story ever written.

Extensive handouts distributed to participants. The paperback text used in the sessions will be: Dubliners, Vintage International edition, edited by Hans Walter Gabler. ISBN: 0-679-739904 and many of the copies can be found in the Greenwich Library collection.

Sessions will be led by Jesse Meyers who has been studying, teaching, and lecturing on the works of Joyce since retiring from newsletter-publishing in 1994. He has taught classes on Joyce at the Irish Consulate in NYC, at Barnes & Noble in NYC and at Fairfield University, the State University of New York at Purchase and -- for seven years -- at NYU's School of Continuing Education. He has lectured on Joyce before public and private organizations in the US, Canada, Ireland, France and Switzerland. More than 7,000 viewers have watched Jesse's 2022 lecture at Greenwich Library on the vast cultural impact of Joyce's epic novel, Ulysses.
