Friends Performing Arts Series: An Evening with Norm Lewis

Join us when Tony and Emmy nominee Norm Lewis takes the Berkley Stage! He will be joined by pianist, music director and orchestrator, Isaac Harlan. Renowned for his powerful baritone and over three decades of Broadway excellence, Norm Lewis captivates audiences in his one-man show by performing a handpicked selection of songs from his iconic roles—while showcasing his vocal versatility across jazz, blues, soul, pop, and classic American favorites. He received Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award nominations for his performance as Porgy in the Broadway production of The Gershwins’ Porgy & Bess. Other Broadway credits include Sondheim on Sondheim, The Little Mermaid, Les Misérables, Chicago, Amour, The Wild Party, Side Show, Miss Saigon, and The Who’s Tommy. In London’s West End he has appeared as Javert in Les Misérables and Les Misérables: The 25th Anniversary Concert, which aired on PBS.
This program will not be live-streamed or recorded. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m. This program is free of charge and is sponsored by the Friends of Greenwich Library.

Norm Lewis was recently seen onstage starring in the national tour of the Tony Award-winning production of A Soldier's Play and in Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End Concert of Love Never Dies. Mr. Lewis last appeared on Broadway in the Fall of 2021, starring in Chicken and Biscuits at the Circle in the Square Theatre and in 2014 made history as the first Black “Phantom” in The Phantom of the Opera. He is an Emmy, Grammy, Tony and SAG Award nominee for his work onstage, screen, and in music. Mr. Lewis is a proud founding member of Black Theatre United.
In addition to his stage work, Lewis starred in Spike Lee's critically acclaimed, Da 5 Bloods, and in the groundbreaking FX series, Pose. Additionally, Mr. Lewis can be seen starring opposite Hilary Swank in the feature The Good Mother, Amazon Prime series, Swarm, and Hulu's, Up Here. He was also seen as 'Caiaphas' in the award-winning NBC television special, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, alongside John Legend, Sara Bareilles, and Alice Cooper.
Isaac Harlan is a Pittsburgh native who studied piano at Penn State University. Since 2010 he has worked in NYC as a pianist, music director, and orchestrator. Isaac has played concerts for Norm Lewis, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Eden Espinosa, and Brandon Victor Dixon, and has also had the pleasure of working on developing musicals by writers such as Tituss Burgess, Alex Gemignani, Michael McElroy, and Black Thought. He accompanies the younger generation of singers through his work with NYU, YoungArts, and the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Isaac also works with the Broadway Inspirational Voices, a Grammy-nominated gospel choir, as a pianist and orchestrator. Most recently, he played piano for the Off-Broadway production of Black No More at the Signature Theatre as well as for a recent workshop of Pal Joey.
