Investment Basics Series I: Can't Afford to Participate in Your 401(k)? Online
Understanding taxes is probably the most important aspect of making 401(k) decisions when money is tight, especially so if you are foregoing participating in a 401(k) matched by your employer. If your paycheck just covers your living expenses leaving no money to contribute to your 401(k) at work, there may be a way to change that without trimming your budget. We’ll review how to review your paycheck tax withholding to see if there is a way to protect your paycheck and participate in your 401(k) at the same time, especially if you get a tax refund. We’ll see if you need to change how much is being withheld from your paycheck for taxes and whether you can qualify for savings tax credits. Learn how to make your 401(k) contribution affordable – by using taxes withheld from your paycheck.
