Friends Friday Films: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

We are thrilled to celebrate the 80th anniversary of this rarely-screened film, an Academy Award-winning adaptation of Betty Smith’s treasured American classic. The film covers a year in the life of the Nolan family in the tenements of 1910s Brooklyn, letting us get to know them through joys and troubles big and small. Like the semi-autobiographical novel, the film is an artistic triumph in transporting us to its time and place with raw emotional honesty; a deeply moving story about what it means to be human.  2h8m. Rated PG.
