Postponed: Kids Bike Safety Workshop (New Date 7/25)

This event will now take place on Monday, July 25 at 6 pm.

The purpose of this workshop is to teach, practice, and instill safety skills for young cyclists, utilizing the Smart Cycling Youth Skills Curriculum of The League of American Bicyclists.

The target age group for this workshop is 8-12-year-olds.  Participants should bring their bike, helmet, and water bottle. Parents are encouraged to attend and watch/listen.  Participants that do not have a bike will also be able to participate. Prior registration is required and the program will be limited to 30 participants. Participants will meet in the Cos Cob Library Community Room and then we will move outside.

During the workshop, participants will learn and practice key safety items such as proper helmet fit and bike check-out, basic handling skills such as starting/ stopping and straight-line riding, hazard avoidance, scan/signal and turning, and rules of the road. There will be light refreshments served at the end of the program.

Bob DeAngelo is "LCI" League Certified Instructor of The League of American Bicyclists trained to teach bike safety skills to youth/adults. Bob is a Greenwich native and avid cyclist and founding member of the Pedal Greenwich bike advocacy group and Bike Task Force working on safe cycling for all.  He will be part of an instructor team of adults assisting, one of which his wife Jan DeAngelo, who has completed the League's Smart Cycling training course.
